Second edition. 8vo (205x125mm). pp. xii, [2], 368. One folding map and two engraved portraits of Ali Pacha. The engraving showing Ali Pacha smoking a long pipe has been reinserted before the title page and the panoramic view of Janina is missing. Half calf, marbled boards. Spine decorated in gilt, contrasting black label with title in gilt. Shelfwear to bottom edges, top corners worn, some rubbing to upper cover and hinges. Internally, this is a sound and tight copy but there is foxing and discolouration. Overall, a nice copy of a popular work describing the life of Ali Pacha who was an Ottoman Albanian ruler of the western part of Rumelia, the Ottoman Empire's European territory which was also called Pashalik of Yanina. Byron's encounter with Ali Pacha was recorded in Childe Harold's Pilgrimage.
