Waltham St Lawrence, Berkshire The Golden Cockerel Press. 1932.

Limited edition, number 377 of 500. 246x169mm. pp. [iv], 74, [1]. Signed by Hugh Walpole on the dedication page. Quarter calf, red and gold patterned cloth covers with initials H,W,G,C,P worked into the patterned. Pages uncut. Top edge gilt. Some soiling to the top of the boards and shelfwear to the bottom edged. Rubbing and slight creasing to spine and two tears to the joints at the head of the spine but generally in very good condition. Internally, an excellent copy. Walpole is a wildly unfashionable writer now, and reading these overwrought, histrionic and leaden reminiscences one can slightly see why. He was very popular and successful during his life, receiving the praise and support of Henry James (to whom this work is dedicated). This attractive little book with its striking cover design is a testament to Walpole's status in the 1930s.
