Tokyo: Asahi Shinbun-Sha. 1983.

First edition. Inscribed by Ikko to "Dear Ms Sue Davies" on the verso of the front free end paper. 300x245mm. pp. [ii], 160. Original purple card, illustrated dustjacket over which is a soft plastic cover with a transparent front cover showing the photograph from the jacket. Ikko's name printed in Roman lettering on the plastic cover and spine and in Japanese on the dust jacket. Some shelfwear and creasing to the card covers and the edges of the dustjacket, toning to the plastic cover but overall in very good condition. The contents are in excellent condition. Volume 9 in a series highlighting the work of important post-war Japanese photographers.
This is a selection of Ikko's work from the early 1950s to the late 1970s and covers many of his main areas of photographic practice: architecture, art, religion, travel and social commentary. A very good copy of an excellent selection demonstrating Ikko's unsettling style. "Narahara's work appeals through its elusiveness, an unwillingness to maintain a singular shape or form. He often combined several negatives in the darkroom in order to create an image with an intangible, ephemeral quality". (Ibasho Gallery).
