In Fairyland. A Series of Pictures from the Elf-WorldDOYLE, Richard
London: Longmans, Green and Co. 1875.
Second edition. Folio. 387x280mm. pp. [viii], 32. 16 chromolithographic and coloured engraved plates created and printed by Edmund Evans from the original illustrations by Doyle. There are thirty six images in total. Although this is referred to as the second edition, it is, in fact, exactly the same as the first edition from 1870 save for the title page which was reprinted in 1875 and added to the remaining unsold stock from the first edition.
The text is a poem by William Allingham. Original green cloth with gilt border and gilt lettering and decoration to upper cover and spine. Slight rubbing to corners and bumping to head and foot of spine. All edges gilt. Some foxing to the preliminaries but otherwise in excellent condition internally. The plates are gorgeous, beautifully fresh and bright. A charming and charmingly sentimental book.
