London: John Murray. 1874.

Second edition. 8vo. (237x155mm) pp. xxvi, 416. With numerous illustrations in the text together with black and white and colour lithograph plates from drawings by Street and one folding plan in the appendix which describes the carvings on the Ducal Palace in Venice. Original maroon cloth decorated in blind with a gothic pattern to upper and lower covers. Lettered in gilt to spine. Rubbing to extremities and wear to head and foot of spine. Top edge gilt. Contents in very good condition with the coloured lithographs particularly nice. This second edition of Street's 1855 work on the architecture of Northern Italy contained much additional and revised material. Although Street is most associated with the Law Courts in the Strand, he was predominantly a church architect, one of the great figures of the Gothic Revival and his primary interest was in the late medieval architecture of southern Europe. One can see the influence of Italian Gothic in many of his churches.
