Napoli: Dalla Tipografia Trani. 1860.
Volume II, part I. 8vo. 200x125mm. pp. [8], xxiv, 3-328, [6]. This volume contains the story and teachings of Jesus Christ set out in a collection of short readings.
Beautifully bound in red full morocco with, on both covers, in gilt, the coat of arms of Francis I, King of the Two Sicilies. The arms are framed by a rococo gilt border. Spine decorated with an attractive rococo design and lettered in gilt. Some slight rubbing and a few marks to the spine but otherwise in very good condition. Internally excellent but with some foxing. Francis I was the King of the Two Sicilies from 1825 to 1830. He was a nephew of Marie Antoinette and Louis XVI of France. Francis is described as a quiet, modest and pious and although he died in the same year that this attractive book was published, one hopes that he derived some consolation both from its contents and its gorgeous binding.
